Dramaturgy and Script Development Services
New plays and musicals often have long journeys before they reach a commercial stage. Those developmental processes can take years of effort and financial support, from revisions and readings to regional or nonprofit productions… and maybe to Off Broadway or Broadway transfers, with many steps along the way! At every chapter of the process, thoughtful dramaturgical feedback can be crucial in shepherding a show to reach the next level towards success.
DRP’s Dramaturgy and Script Development service includes support for creative team members at every phase whenever they’re needed, tailor-made for your specific project: at conception, at any step of development, before a first industry presentation, or leading up to and following a pre-Broadway tryout.
Overseeing this division is Megan Smith, who has been DRP’s in-house dramaturg and literary manager for 15 years. Before joining us, she received her MFA in Dramaturgy and Script Development from Columbia University; worked in the literary offices at Berkeley Rep, La Jolla, and Helen Merrill, Ltd; and served as the Artistic Associate at INTAR Theatre, where she oversaw their Hispanic Playwrights Lab. Megan’s skills have been a major benefit to nearly every new work we’ve produced at DRP.
For some time now, we have had requests for dramaturgical support on various projects from other producing and general management offices. We truly believe, in the words of Lola from "Kinky Boots," that there is a “niche market” for these services in commercial development, and look forward to talking further about how we can benefit your project.
